Top 10 BPOs in India


In the face of unpredictable economic crisis threatening to abort the steady growth rate of Indian BPOs, these companies had to reinvest their strategies, diversify themselves, change processes and think of ways to stop attrition while planning how they would streamline their progress. Nine out of Top 10 BPO companies in India recorded growth in revenues. And of these, 60% grew by more than a healthy 20%.

Here are the top 10 BPOs in India and how they fared during the last fiscal year:

1. Genpact: The country’s number one BPO, as measured by 2008-2009 fiscal performance, is GE Genpact. Growth: by 54 percent, Revenue: Rs.4,981 crore. 85 percent of its revenues have come from clients Nissan and Delphi.
2. Tata Consultancy Services: TCS signed the biggest outsourcing deal in Indian history when it signed up Citigroup for $2.5 bn deal spread over nine-and-half years. TCS’s IT-BPO integration saw it bagging 22 new deals in the fiscal year 2008-09. Growth: by 31 percent. Revenue: Rs.1,817 crore.
3. WNS: WNS is the number three biggest BPO in India and this year, it bagged an 8 year contract with Aviva Global Services worth $1bn. Aviva contributes about 20 percent of WNS revenues and the BPO has grown by 51 percent this year.
4. Wipro: Wipro is the fourth biggest BPO in India. Growth rate: by 43 percent. Revenue: Rs. 1641 crore. Wipro is the only BPO in India which has added 12 percent employees this year, as against many BPOs which faces layoffs.
5. FirstSource: FirstSource’s acquisition of client MedAssist, the health care giant, has increased the fortunes of FirstSource. The health care business had added upto 85 percent of revenue contribution of FirstSource and the company has grown overall by 45 percent.
6. Aegis: Essar’s Aegis is number 6 on the list of popular BPOs in India. The year saw the company grow by a massive 83% to record revenues of Rs 1558 crore. The company is recruiting a lot of people and has targeted a headcount of 43000 by the end of this fiscal year.
7. IBM-Daksh: IBM grew by 15 percent to amass a reported revenue of Rs.1486 crores. The domestic business of IBM-Daksh has been doing well, thanks to deals from Makemytrip and Bharti.
8. Infosys BPO: Infosys BPO grew by 51% during the fiscal year 2008-09 to rank at no. 8. The Total recorded revenue has been Rs.1471 crores. Infosys has recently ventured into an alliance with with US-based MortgageFlex Systems to provide offerings to the mortgage industry.
9. Aditya Birla Minacs: This BPO reported negative growth and the fortunes of the company went down by 9% to stand at Rs 1430 crore. Since 90 percent of the revenues came from North America, it was natural to see the BPO entering a loss phase.
10. HCL: HCL group's BPO ranks at no. 10. Largely termed as a voice player till the year before, the fiscal year 2008-09 saw the company taking some counteractive steps. During the year, company grew by 22% to gross revenues of Rs 1077 crore
