Come January 2010, and you will be able to benefit from Mobile Number Portability in India. This means you will be able to switch from one cellphone service provider to the other one, without changing your mobile number. The price of Mobile Number Portability is just Rs. 19.

So, if you have been troubled by your mobile service provider and do not like the current service levels, you can always change the cell phone service provider. This MNP facility that is widely present in places like the UK, starts from December 31,2009.

India is all set to make inroads into the 3G services arena also. Last Friday, ie, 20th November 2009, BSNL rolled out its 3G services in Chennai with an extremely low video calling rate of just 30 paise per minute. Isn't it good news? And this is just the beginning, expect this low price to become even more competitive as the other mobile players in India vie for the video calling and 3G market. India, the fastest telecom market in the world with the lowest cell phone rates in the globe is sure to get very competitive.

TRAI( Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has said that the MNP or switching charges should not exceed. 19, and operators are free to levy any amount less or equal to this charge.By the way, apart from changing cell phone service providers, you can also change mobile technologies, ie; you can move from GSM providers to CDMA providers through Mobile Number Portability.
